When should I take your classes?
- I recommend taking a Childbirth Education Class, private class or Breastfeeding Prep class in the second half of pregnancy and completing them by your 37th week, if possible.
Do you focus on natural birth in your childbirth education classes? What if I am planning to use pain medication during my labor?
- My classes are designed for those who are planning a natural birth as well as those who want to use pain medication in labor. The classes cover information on pain medication in an evidence-based and unbiased way.
How is Childbirth Education in the Tetons different than the ones offered at my hospital?
- The classes at hospitals are typically not very thorough. Hospital based classes generally focus on the practical matters of what will happen at the hospital, rather than informing the mother and family about all of the possibilities that they have for labor and birth, how to prepare for labor and birth and ways to best prepare for a new family member. Even if you take your hospital based childbirth classes, I recommend taking an independent class as well.
How are Childbirth Education of the Tetons classes different from other classes like Hypnobirthing, Lamaze or Bradley?
- I considered and studied several different methods for the training and made the personal decision against becoming certified in any one specific method including those noted above because I found that much of the existing curriculum including those noted above are dated, too focused, too rigid and didn’t really prepare parents-to-be for the reality of the childbirth experience. My vision is to create an environment that supports and encourages women to find what they are comfortable with, a class that can help woman discover their confidence and empower themselves to take control of their birth. My curriculum does not support just one method or philosophy of birth, but rather I want to educate and inform families on all options available to them so that they can make decisions about what might work best for them.
What does the childbirth course fee include?
- In addition to the wealth of information, hands on exercise and videos shown in class; my 12.5 hour childbirth class series includes a manual with take home readings, local resources, diagrams and up to date articles and research. Also included are some healthy snacks and samples of some of my favorite products for breastfeeding and postpartum.
